10 Days with the Cingular 3125 - Day 9 & 10 - Final Thoughts

Tuesday, October 10th, 2006

As day ten draws to a close, I find myself wondering how much I’ll miss the Cingular 3125 after it is packaged back up and sent back to its home. I will certainly miss the long battery life and the form factor. I will not miss the fact that it didn’t have a touchscreen (and therefore wasn’t a true Pocket PC), or the sometimes miserable signal.

I will miss the easy to read screens,… Read More

10 Days with the Cingular 3125 - Day 5 - Battery Love

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006

I cannot believe how good the battery life is on this 3125. It blows my XV6700 out of the water. Even with Bluetooth running, calls, and surfing, I ran for almost a day and a half without plugging in, and the meter only dropped two bars.

Battery life can be such a fickle thing. What works well for one, may not be for another. I just have my Verizon XV6700 to compare to - which can… Read More

10 Days with the Cingular 3125 - Day 4 - Going Solo

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006

All calls forwarded! Yep, went solo on the 3125 for the first time. Boldly going where…well, you can see where that joke was headed. Prior to today, I carried both phones, just in case. Yes, some calls still had problems (lowest dropped calls, they say, but then don’t mention the quality of said calls), but I was able to navigate with relative ease.

The problem is, about mid-day I… Read More

10 Days with the Cingular 3125 - Day 3 - Proprietary Hardware Blues

Sunday, October 1st, 2006

I’ve never been a fan of proprietary hardware, and the combo headset/power jack on the 3125 is no exception. While the included headphones don’t sound bad, why shouldn’t I be able to use my favorite set of earplugs instead. At this point there doesn’t seem to be an adapter available. Hopefully that will be resolved in the future.

Thankfully, a Y-adapter is included to allow for both… Read More

10 Days with the Cingular 3125 - Day 2 - Button Envy

Saturday, September 30th, 2006

While the interface on the 3125 still is taking some getting used to, I’m quickly learning the menus. But now I’m experiencing a bit of button envy - from both sides!

First, having an actual number pad through which I can dial numbers is something I’ve always missed since switching to the XV6700. But the complete lack of a QWERTY keyboard to do the most simple messaging, surfing, and… Read More

Friday, September 29th, 2006

We recently reviewed the Qtek 8500, and just to add a little more context, I’ll be checking in over the next ten days with the Cingular version - the 3125. Today is day one…

And of course, day one started out with a box being delivered to my door. Open it and tada! - Smartphone. Now, I’m a long… Read More

Speed Dial Your Applications in Smartphone

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

Most Smartphones don?t have many hardware shortcut buttons, so you lose the ability to quickly launch your favorite program. You can set your Smartphone to launch an application via speed dial, much like it?s set to access voicemail (by holding #1 on the keypad).

Go into the start menu, find the program that you want to set to Speed Dial, highlight it, then click Menu, and Add Voice Dial…. Read More
