New PocketBible Book - Complete Word Study for the Old Testament

Saturday, October 14th, 2006

For those of you with PocketBible 3, Laridian has released a new dictionary called the Complete Word Study Dictionary Old Testament. It has every Hebrew and Aramaic word and gives an extensive definition and why the words may be translated differently depending on the context, complete with hyperlinked examples. It comes with the King James Version Exhaustive Concordance that has Strong’s numbering if you don’t already have it. It also works with the Strong’s numbering system in the New American Standard Exhaustive Concordance.

The dictionary itself is about 4.7MB and can be stored on a storage card. It is $29.99 alone or for $39.99, you can get the Complete Word Study Dictionary New Testament and Old Testament together, which I highly recommend. If you already have either the King James or New American Standard with the Greek or Hebrew dictionaries, I recommend you remove those dictionaries only from your Laridian Books folder and replace it with these. THey will be called KJVGK, KJVHB, NASGK or NASHB. That way, when you tap on a Strong’s number, the appropriate Complete Word Study Dictionary opens up with a lengthy definition and analysis of the word you are questioning.

This does require PocketBible 3. If you haven’t upgraded from PocketBible 2 yet, now is the time to seriously consider it. If the new features of PocketBible 3 weren’t enough to get you to upgrade, maybe the new books, like this one, will be. Also, if you already have PocketBible 3, you’ll need to download and install version 3.043 if you didn’t do that earlier this week.

Washington Post, Newsweek, Slate Are Sponsored by MS, Go Mobile

Tuesday, September 26th, 2006

“Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive (WPNI) today announced the launch of three new mobile Internet sites, building on the company’s award-winning Web publications, washingtonpost.com, Newsweek.com and Slate. The launch signals the start of WPNI’s mobile services initiative to expand access to in-demand news and feature content that is updated around the clock…The launch is sponsored by Microsoft Windows Mobile.”

The three sites can be accessed by replacing www in the URL with mobile, e.g., mobile.newsweek.com. The interesting variable here is the Windows Mobile sponsorship — but I’m not sure what it means. If you scroll down the page, you’ll see a WM banner. So if a “launch” is sponsored, does that mean that money went towards bringing the site to life, or just promising ads for the content provider? In either case, if Microsoft’s sponsorship means more mobile sites, I’m all for it!

pt has been looking for some big buttons for his Wizard to make WMP10 a bit easier to use. The only button on the default skin you can really use effectively without a stylus is the play/pause button. Not so with this skin!

The direct link for the skin itself is here.

Yahoo! Updates Mobile Email

Monday, July 24th, 2006

“MobileCrunch has learned that Yahoo! Mobile, a longtime leader in the mobile content and application space, has redesigned the user interface of their very popular Yahoo Mail Mobile application, which is now visible as the principal mobile interface for their wireless email, contacts and mobile directions.”

For those of you that use Yahoo email, this sounds like a good thing. Personally, I haven’t been able to bring myself to fork up the additional dough to get effective anti-spam measures on my Yahoo account.

Standard for eBooks?

Thursday, July 13th, 2006

On the whole, eBooks have not been much of a success. At best it is a niche market with limited appeal to people that have devices that can use them. It seems Microsoft’s own Reader application has been left for dead, both on the desktop and mobile device, and with that insane DRM implementation, good riddance. Every hardware implementation seems to have fallen by the wayside too. I haven’t heard much of Sony’s latest product in this area either,…

One question on many people’s minds lately revolves around the current state of the Pocket PC. HP has upgraded some devices while discontinuing others and putting emphasis on their new connected devices. So what is going on with Dell and what could…

Jason and Dave’s ThoughtCast - April 7, 2006

Friday, April 7th, 2006

In early March, you likely read Raphael Salgado’s review of the g-Smart Smartphone. The g-Smart includes TV support, which is a new feature that is starting to appear in Windows Mobile devices. But is TV support something that is really needed in devices? What would be the benefits and the drawbacks of having it included? I recently have been thinking about these and wanted to get Jason’s opinion on the matter as well. In this ThoughtCast we talk…

Since that time, there have been a lot of questions about hosted Exchange including what it is and what it can do for you. In this ThoughtCast program, Jason and I talk about hosted Exchange and the benefits to using it over POP, IMAP, and other services. We will also field…
