Monday, April 30th, 2007

Last week’s Photo Contacts PRO 5 contest generated some interesting numbers. There are a fair few of you with a four-digit collection of contacts, which really gave the Thoughts Media Random Number Generator (patent pending and all that jazz) a workout. The odds were slim, but in the end, five of you pulled through to win a copy of Photo Contacts PRO 5, as well as a bonus copy of the High Quality Ringtone Pack.

Congratulations to barmach (Smartphone), Catman51 (Pocket PC), jvanliew (Pocket PC), nunoeca (Pocket PC), and raweaver (Pocket PC). Please check your Inbox in a few hours time for additional details.

A big thank you to PocketX Software for their generous donation. If you missed out, don’t forget that you can still pick up a copy of Photo Contacts PRO 5 from our affiliate software store for $29.95.

UK SlingPlayer Mobile for Windows Mobile Now Available

Monday, April 30th, 2007

“It took “a little bit longer” but finally, the long awaited SlingPlayer Mobile for Windows Mobile Pocket PCs and Smartphones can also purchased in the UK. So far, users outside the U.S. only had the option to test the 30 days trial version from the U.S. site but it was (virtually) impossible to buy it from any other locations. Now, UK users can also buy the Windows Mobile clients to enhance the use of the Slingbox. SlingPlayer Mobile lets you watch your TV and all of its programming on Windows Mobile cell phones or PDAs. This means you can have worldly mobility.”

If you’re in the UK and you’ve been waiting patiently for the Slingplayer client for your Windows Mobile device, it’s finally here. Go check out Arne’s story for more details.

Mel Sampat Talks Windows Mobile 6

Monday, April 30th, 2007

“The Mobile and Embedded Devices Conference (MEDC) is taking place in Vegas next week, and I thought I’d post a little fun here to get things going. Mel Sampat stopped by to demo some fancy-schmancy stuff in Windows Mobile 6.0. There’s more going on now for both devs and users. One of the nicer things about 6.0, at least from a dev standpoint, is that the .NET CF 2.0 and SQL Server Compact Edition 2.0 both ship in ROM, meaning you can deploy your nice little apps without having to deploy the runtime as well.”

Mel Sampat stopped by Channel 9 recently to demo some of the developer-oriented features of Windows Mobile 6. If you have half an hour to spare, check out the video here.

Apologies For the Broken Site

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Please accept my apologies for the broken layout you’ve had to endure over the past 48 hours or so. We were swapping out some advertising code, and due to a miscommunication amongst the Thoughts Media team, the bottom 125 x 125 banner wasn’t removed as it was supposed to be. The new code, coming from DoubleClick, coughed up a huge error and unfortunately I wasn’t alerted to it until this morning. Things should be back to normal now, and we’ll keep an eye on things like this in the future.

HTC Vox S710 Blog: Day 2

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Let’s talk more about hardware today.

As seen in the top image, the S710, with the keyboard fully extended, fits into the palm of my hand (and I’ve got small hands). It’s really amazing how far we’ve come in getting our electronics to be so small. Both keypads are backlit blue, and turn on in low light conditions. The keyboard has a minimal amount of buttons, fewer than does the HTC… Read More

Tim writes, “When it comes to protecting our investment, the non-iPod users of the world are mostly left out in the cold. We must create our own or modify existing cases if we protect the device at all. Griffin Technology is here to help. With the release of their California Roll, a mostly universal digital audio device case, perhaps even I can finally find a case that works with my current MP3 player.”… Read More
